Frustration and Low Turnout Mark N-Power Protest Over Unpaid Stipends
In today’s latest Npower news, despite the pressing issue of nine months’ worth of unpaid stipends, N-Power volunteers’ nationwide protest on December 13th, 2023, suffered from low turnout and disappointment. The meager attendance across the country highlighted the challenges of mobilizing action and the volunteers’ growing frustration with the situation.
One protester from Bayelsa state, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted a disheartening experience:
“It’s shameful how we rant online but lack the strength to take action. Everyone has an excuse. Not a single soul showed up in Bayelsa, leaving me alone under the scorching sun. They prioritize trivial things, while I’m jobless. I waited for hours at the State House of Assembly, only to be met with emptiness. Even at the government house, security personnel questioned my motives and dismissed me as an impersonator. It’s humiliating to be seen as unserious for advocating for our own rights.”
Similar stories of low participation and disappointment emerged from other states. While the protest aimed to pressure the government to address the long-delayed stipends, the lack of unified action raises concerns about the effectiveness of such tactics.
However, amidst the disappointment, a glimmer of hope remains. The N-Power management has recently assured beneficiaries that their payments are forthcoming, attributing the delay to technical glitches that are being resolved.
Moving forward, N-Power beneficiaries face a crucial decision. Will they continue relying on sporadic online protests or explore alternative strategies like sustained legal action or direct engagement with government officials? The answer will determine their success in securing their rightful stipends.
