What is the nGAP Program?

The nGAP (New Generation of Academics Program) is an initiative designed to support and develop new academic staff in South Africa. If you’re chosen for this position, you’ll benefit from the program’s resources and guidance as you begin your academic career.

Who are we looking for?

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Mathematical Statistical Sciences or Mathematics with a specialization in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence.
  • Important Note: If your Master’s degree is in Mathematics, you’ll also need an Honours degree specifically in Mathematical Statistics.
  • You have a strong understanding of statistical theory and its practical applications.
  • The Department focuses on the development of this theory, so experience with applied statistics fields like Operations Research or Demography isn’t necessarily required.
  • You have a minimum average of 70% for your Master’s degree, as stipulated by nGAP requirements.

What skills and experience do you need?

  • You have experience leading discussions, presentations, or tutoring sessions.
  • You’re comfortable teaching a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mathematical Statistics. These courses could cover topics like:
