- Tesla just launched the new Model Y, but that’s not all the company has in store. If you’ve been waiting for a more budget-friendly Tesla, you’re in luck. The electric car giant is gearing up to release lower-cost models as early as 2025.
- But here’s the catch—Tesla isn’t just cutting prices. It has a smart plan to grow while keeping costs under control.
- What does that mean for future Tesla buyers? Will there be an entirely new model, or will Tesla make its existing cars more affordable? Let’s take a closer look at what Tesla has in store and what it means for you.
Tesla recently introduced the new Model Y, but the company still has big plans for this year, including the launch of more budget-friendly electric vehicles.
More Affordable Tesla Models on the Way
According to Tesla’s Q4 2024 Update Letter, the company is on track to introduce new, lower-cost models in the first half of 2025.
“Plans for new vehicles, including more affordable models, remain on track for start of production in the first half of 2025,” Tesla stated in the report.
These upcoming vehicles will combine elements from both Tesla’s current and next-generation platforms. Also, they will be manufactured on the same production lines as Tesla’s existing models.
Why Tesla Is Taking This Approach
Tesla shared its reasoning for this strategy in the update letter.
“This approach will result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected but enables us to prudently grow our vehicle volumes in a more capex-efficient manner during uncertain times.
“This should help us fully utilize our current expected maximum capacity of close to three million vehicles, enabling more than 60% growth over 2024 production before investing in new manufacturing lines.”
Essentially, Tesla is prioritizing steady growth and efficient use of its existing factories rather than spending heavily on new production lines right away.

What This Could Mean for Tesla’s Future Lineup
While many Tesla fans are excited about the possibility of a brand-new, affordable model, the company may instead focus on making its current vehicles cheaper.
This means Tesla might keep producing classic versions of the Model Y and Model 3 but offer them at lower prices. These versions could be more affordable alternatives to the latest Model Y and the redesigned Model 3.
Regardless of the specifics, Tesla’s plan to bring down costs and increase production will likely make its electric cars more accessible to a wider range of buyers in the near future.
