In a major stride toward boosting Nigeria’s tech independence, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has teamed up with Imose Technologies Ltd to launch the country’s first locally-manufactured laptops and tablets.
This historic collaboration was unveiled Monday and is in line with the government’s drive for local content, job creation, and economic growth.
The newly released devices include NASENI’s Zedon X-Pro laptop and a 10.5-inch tablet, both tailored to meet the needs of students, professionals, and everyday users. The Zedon X-Pro laptop, equipped with a Core i5 processor and a 14-inch display, offers a balance of power and portability for professionals. Meanwhile, the 10.5-inch tablet is designed for on-the-go users, supporting various tasks such as document editing, streaming, and gaming.
Khalil Suleiman Halilu, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, emphasized that this partnership reflects NASENI’s commitment to fostering indigenous industrialization and reducing Nigeria’s dependency on imports.
He shared, “This partnership embodies NASENI’s 3Cs principle—Collaboration, Creation, and Commercialization. Working with Imose Technologies allows us to bridge Nigeria’s tech gap and reduce import costs.” Halilu further expressed NASENI’s goal to make their products, like the Zedon X-Pro, a household name across Nigeria.
Imose Technologies, led by Chairman Osayi Izedonmwen, has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s local tech manufacturing for over a decade. “This partnership with NASENI empowers us to expand access to technology for education and work, effectively narrowing Nigeria’s digital divide,” Izedonmwen said.
The company has long been focused on manufacturing mobile and computing devices that address Nigeria’s unique needs, reinforcing the impact of local production on both accessibility and affordability.
This joint initiative is expected to benefit various sectors, including government institutions, private businesses, and the general public, thereby establishing a solid market for Nigerian-made tech solutions.
By producing these devices locally, NASENI and Imose Technologies are not only creating jobs but also paving the way for a more self-reliant and digitally inclusive Nigeria, fueling both technological and economic growth.
