Tesla has taken a significant step forward with the Cybertruck by launching its Autopark feature, marking the first piece of the Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems for the vehicle.
While the full suite of these self-driving technologies hasn’t yet been fully enabled for the Cybertruck, this release shows that Tesla is moving closer to bringing these capabilities to their futuristic pickup.
The Cybertruck, with its unique design and different driving dynamics compared to Tesla’s other vehicles, required extra attention from the company before they could roll out the complete Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features.
One of the main challenges was the Cybertruck’s ride height, which is quite different from the rest of Tesla’s cars. This difference caused delays in activating the Full Self-Driving package for the truck.
Despite these delays, Tesla had been teasing Autopark as the first feature to be introduced to the Cybertruck’s self-driving capabilities. For months, the company hinted that this would be the first step toward making the Cybertruck more autonomous, even though an initial August release didn’t materialize. However, Tesla has now delivered, officially rolling out Autopark.
The newly launched Autopark feature allows the Cybertruck to park itself, including parallel parking, in marked spaces. According to Tesla’s release notes, when driving at low speeds, the vehicle will highlight available parking spots on the display, showing a square P symbol to indicate a possible space.
Drivers can select any of the highlighted spaces, stop the vehicle, and initiate Autopark by pressing Start and letting go of the steering wheel, which will then turn on its own.
However, like all Tesla’s Autopilot features, the driver still needs to stay alert and be ready to take control of the vehicle at any moment. Autopark can be canceled at any time by pressing the brake or taking control of the wheel manually.
To use the Autopark feature, Cybertruck owners need to have purchased or subscribed to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) program. This subscription provides access to Tesla’s advanced driving technologies, but it still requires the driver to oversee the vehicle’s actions while using them.
